SYRACUSE – Four area boys golfs teams competed in the 16-team Wawasee Invitational Saturday at South Shore Golf Club. None of them, however, were a threat to the NorthWood Panthers, who won the tournament with a four-man score of 311. Culver Military Academy finished a distant second at 322. Wawasee had two teams in the field. The Warriors’ green squad finished fourth with a 329, while the gold squad finished 15th with a 394. Jeffrey Moore led Wawasee with a 75. With a vastly different lineup than normal, the Warsaw Tigers finished ninth with a 350, while Whitko was 12th at 374 and Manchester rounded out the field with a 402. The Tigers, who were without the services of normal varsity players Will Petro, Brandon Eckert and Ryan Cultice because of an academic competition, were led by Jonny Hollar’s 76. Danny Zawlocki carded and 84 to lead Whitko. Individually, Homestead’s John Connelly won Saturday with a 72, while Northridge’s Will Erekson was runner-up with a 73 and NorthWood’s Brayden Glaser and Logan Kauffman shot 74s. Warsaw and Wawasee are in action again Tuesday at Rozella Ford in the Joe Harris Shootout, while Whitko and Manchester are in Three Rivers Conference competition with Northfield Tuesday.
