SYRACUSE - Archie G. Hoffert, 91, of Pierceton, died at 3:40 a.m. July 21, 2009, in Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse.
He was born Nov. 24, 1917, in Larwill, to George and Elizabeth Leiter Hoffert. On Oct. 7, 1939, in Winona Lake, he married Edith R. Hoppas, who survives.
He graduated from Claypool High School in 1935, and moved to the North Webster/Pierceton area in 1949. He formerly worked at Union Tool and Sun Metal, both of Warsaw. He was a farmer and raised ducks for Maple Leaf Farms for 49 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Oswego, where he served as a trustee for many years.
Also surviving are two sons, Douglas (and spouse Karen) Hoffert, Leesburg, and Thomas (and spouse Patricia) Hoffert, Pierceton; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Waldron, Goshen; and a brother, Russell Hoffert, Fort Wayne.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, Leesburg, with Pastor Rick Smith officiating. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery, Mock Addition.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse.
