Aquatic Life on Display at Lakes Fest

Posted
WINONA LAKE – The Hawg Trough is a mobile 5,000-gallon fish tank that will be on display at Center Lake Saturday as part of the Northern Indiana Lakes Festival.
Children and adults also can get close to and even touch some amazing animals at the Silly Safaris animal show during the festival.
“If you’ve ever wanted to see the fish in our lakes up close, this is your chance,” said festival coordinator Anna Burke.
The Hawg Trough operator will provide periodic seminars and fishing demonstrations throughout the day. The fish on display will include a variety of native species like bluegill and catfish.
According to Hawg Trough owner Jim Vitaro, “The tank provides an excellent source of entertainment for young and old, seasoned anglers and novice fishermen.”
This is one of many lake-themed activities taking place over the Lakes Festival weekend in Warsaw and Winona Lake.
The Silly Safaris show will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at Center Lake.
The show is a high-energy and theatrical performance. Children and volunteers join the animals on stage in games and fun activities.
Each animal, game and interaction teaches something simple about nature and caring for the planet.
Since the Lakes Festival is a water-themed event, the show will focus on amphibians and reptiles. But community members will have to come to the event to see just what animals Silly Safaris brings with them from their Indianapolis headquarters.
