Applications Being Accepted for Warsaw School Board

Posted
As of Thursday night, only two people so far have applied for Kent Adams’ seat on the Warsaw School Board.

Applications are due in to Superintendent Dr. Craig Hintz’s office by noon Dec. 23.

Adams submitted his resignation at the school board’s November meeting, which is effective at midnight Jan. 1. He has one year left on his term, and was elected to the school board in November 2008.

He resigned to become clerk-treasurer for the town of Winona Lake.

Interviews for qualified candidates for District 4 are scheduled for 5 p.m. Jan. 3. The interviews are open to the public, according to Hintz during the school board meeting Thursday night.

The school board will appoint someone to Adams’ District 4 position at 6 p.m. Jan. 5.

Applications for the school board seat, as well as a school district map, are available online at the corporation’s website at http://www.warsaw.k12.in.us/

The required organizational meeting of the board is set for 5 p.m. Jan. 11.

Hintz and School Board President Deb Wiggins presented a plaque to Adams Thursday for his service to the board.

Adams thanked the board and recognized his wife, who didn’t tell him she was going to be present at the meeting.

“As I close out three years here on the board,” Adams said, “I extend my thanks to my fellow board members.”

Running a school corporation is a big operation, he said. He asked teacher and Warsaw Community Educators Association representative Terry Sims to convey his appreciation to the teaching staff of WCS.

In another matter, Hintz reported Warsaw’s student enrollment for December is 7,004, only down five students from last month and almost 200 more than this time last year.

Enrollment at individual buildings are: 367, Claypool; 461, Eisenhower; 579, Harrison; 509, Jefferson; 490, Leesburg; 474, Lincoln; 498, Madison; 406, Washington; 535, Edgewood Middle School; 520, Lakeview Middle School; and 2,165, Warsaw Community High School.

By grade, enrollment is: 541, kindergarten; 517, first grade; 560, second grade; 521, third grade; 529, fourth grade; 567, fifth grade; 549, sixth grade; 526, seventh grade; 529, eighth grade; 559, ninth grade; 558, 10th grade; 526, 11th grade; and 522, 12th grade.
