A food recall warning was issued Wednesday for Sun Rich Fresh Food Inc. sliced apples and products containing sliced apples produced in its Brampton, Ontario facility from the marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Bob Weaver, Kosciukso County Health Department manager, said the brand of apples was served to students last week at Wa-Nee Schools. Joe Sabo, Wa-Nee Community Schools superintendent, sent a letter to parents Friday that said the school system received a product recall notice from Sun Rich Fresh Foods on Thursday who sells the school community apple slices packaged in accordance with federal, school food service guidelines. The notice warned that the packaged apple slices may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a person with listeriosis has fever and muscle aches sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.
