Apology To Officer

Posted

Editor, Times-Union:
Dear Officer Baker, Warsaw Police Department,
I am writing this letter to offer my deepest and most sincere apologies for my actions that led to your injuries and my arrest. I deeply regret my behavior that day and the harm it caused you both physically and emotionally.
At the time of the incident, I was experiencing a severe mental health crisis related to my bipolar disorder. While this does not excuse my actions, I hope it offers some context as to the state I was in and the loss of control I was battling internally. Mental illness is something I continue to struggle with, and I am now taking additional steps to better manage my condition, including seeking professional support and committing fully to my treatment plan.
I recognize that you were doing your job — a job that demands courage and calm in the face of unpredictable and sometimes dangerous situations. No officer should be injured while simply carrying out their duty, and for being the cause of that pain, I am truly sorry.
Please know that I am committed to taking full responsibility for my actions and doing the work needed to ensure this never happens again. I hope, in time, you can accept my apology and understand that my actions came from a place of instability, not intent.
I wish you a full and speedy recovery, both physically and emotionally. Thank you for your service, and again, I am truly sorry for the harm I caused.
With sincere remorse,
Jaclyn Tait
