Another Meeting Set On Ogle Situation

Monday night's executive session, which included discussion on Warsaw Community High School boys basketball coach Doug Ogle, started at 5:30 p.m.

It ended at about 10 p.m., according to Warsaw Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Haworth this morning.

"I think it was productive," said Ron Yeiter, school board president, today.A public meeting is scheduled for May 12. Time and location are to be determined, said Haworth. He said he thinks the May 12 meeting will take more of the form of a regular board meeting, including some public recognition, to help reduce the length of the regular May 19 school board meeting. Yeiter said he did not think Monday's meeting will be a lengthy meeting.

During the executive session Monday, Haworth said a variety of personnel topics were discussed, and the school board listened to a variety of people.

Asked if there will be a vote Monday, school board member Deb Wiggins said, "I don't know. I just depends if one of the board members make a motion."

She said it is expected that the issues of job evaluations, policy, structure and performance will be referred to Monday evening. Ogle's continuance as head coach is a part of that, she said. However, the issues the school board is looking at are bigger than just Ogle. The school board is looking at structure, policy and procedure for evaluations of all Warsaw Schools employees, she said.

"I think we're heading into the right direction," said Wiggins.

At the April 28 public meeting on Ogle, which lasted four hours, the meeting had to be moved from the Central Administration Building to Washington Elementary School gym because more than 225 people attended the meeting. Haworth said the gym didn't make for the best possible venue. Haworth said they are checking the schedules for all the possible location sites to have the meeting.

School Board Secretary Gene England was not in attendance at the April 28 meeting, which was one of the reasons the school board chose not to take action. They preferred for the full school board to be involved in any decision that may be made.

Of the approximate three dozen people who spoke April 28, only four spoke in opposition to Ogle remaining as varsity coach. However, school board members indicated that more people called them at their homes opposing Ogle.

An executive session then was scheduled for May 5, with Ogle, the full school board, Haworth, Warsaw Community Education Association Union President Terry Sims, WCHS current principal Dr. Jennifer Lucht and Troy Akers, WCHS principal beginning next year, and anyone Ogle requests be present scheduled to attend.

The full school board includes Yeiter, Vice President Dan Robinson, England, Tammy Dalton, Wiggins, Delores Hearn and Chuck Sauders.
