Christmas is near, and that means it's also time for the Toy Consignment Sale.
The sale helps people clean out their toy boxes at home, help children in need receive Christmas toys and make a little extra cash for themselves.
In 2007, according to Ami Pitt, one of the sale's organizers, the consignment took in more than 7,000 toys. This is how it works:
Toys to be sold can be dropped off Dec. 8-11 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., or 9 to 10 a.m. Dec. 12, at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds in the Home and Family Arts Building. Event organizers do the pricing.
For those who brought in toys to sell, there is a toy presale Dec. 12 from 7 to 8 p.m.
The toy sale for the public will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 13, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 14.
This is the 13th year for the toy consignment sale.
Those who bring in toys to sell get 50 percent of the selling price. Combined Community Services gets 50 percent to buy new toys, then run a two-day toy giveaway. Toys not sold at the sale are put in the giveaway. Donations of new toys and monetary donations also are accepted for the giveaway. Sellers have the option of donating their 50 percent, too.
The CCS Toy Giveaway will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 16, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 17, or until toys are gone. This is the 15th year for the giveaway.
No broken or dirty toys will be accepted. Toys will be checked at the door. Recalled toys are not the responsibility of the consignment sale organizers.
