Annual BYC Fundraiser Makes Shift To Online EventThe Baker Youth Club (BYC) and its board of directors made the decision to cancel their “in-person” event scheduled for Aug. 15.
The “Making A Difference” with Dueling Pianos has been rescheduled for Friday, March 12, according to a news release from BYC.
Executive Director Tracy Furnivall said, “The board felt that with the number of people typically attending this event and the socializing that comes with it was not in the best interest of our community at this time. The health and safety of our community is more important than trying to host an event like this.”
The decision to cancel was not an easy choice as this event is BYC’s biggest fundraiser of year and a vital part of its budget, the release states.
The funds generated from the annual event funds many of the BYC programs as well as a large portion of the operating budget. In lieu of an “in-person” event, BYC will host a livestreaming event from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27. This event will have guest speakers, entertainment, live and silent auction with the goal to raise funds to enable BYC to continue serving the community as it has for over 90 years.
“More than any year, BYC needs our community’s support,” Furnivall said.
The community will be able to view the event, all you have to do “Like/Follow” the BYC Facebook page and you will get promotional videos and updates regarding the event and the auction, then just follow us “Live” on Facebook at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27.
BYC was able to reopen its doors on June 1 for their summer program and, while following CDC guidelines, will continue to operate their before- and after-school programs once schools open. If school does not reopen, BYC will continue to follow CDC guidelines and remain open as a resource for eLearning, physical activity and a safe place for the children to attend.
“We just feel we need to here for our children regardless of what happens with school,” Furnivall said.
Donations are welcome at any time via the website or in-person at BYC. For more details regarding this event and any of BYC Programs, visit the website at www.bakeryouthclub.com or call 574-267-8771.
