ETNA GREEN – Town attorney Nick Jacobs gave an update on the process of annexing two pieces of property into the town during the Etna Green Town Council meeting Tuesday.
Jacobs said during last month’s meeting Joey Slone, of Joey’s RV, was interested in annexing two pieces of property into the town. Jacobs said Slone is still interested in proceeding with the annexation, “but we ran in a little bit of a roadblock.”
Jacobs said Slone has closed on one property and is waiting to close on the other piece of property he is interested in near Winona Powder Coating on Old 30. The piece of property Slone closed on does not touch the town limits. Slone has not closed on the property that does touch the town limits. Before both pieces of property can be annexed into the town, Slone would have to close on the piece of property that touches the town limits.
Council President Keith Claassen asked if the Council needed to wait for that closing before they could proceed with the annexation. Jacobs said yes. Claassen asked if there was a timeline for the closing on the property touching town limits. Jacobs said he talked with Slone in February and Slone said it should be pretty soon.
Jacobs said he thinks Slone wants to put a future Joey’s RV site on the two properties in the future.
Jacobs also gave the Council an update on some of the properties within town that are in “kind of bad shape.”
One property on 111 Walnut St. is a commercial property. Eric Blackwell, the owner, was supposed to be at the meeting to update the Council on what he was planning on doing with the property, but he was not at the meeting. Jacobs said he believed the backside of the property was in bad shape. Jacobs said the owner is a contractor and as the weather gets a little warmer, he should be fixing up the property himself.
The other property is 127 Walnut St. The mortgage company was not aware of the condition until Jacobs contacted the company, Clerk-Treasurer Patti Cook said. The mortgage company is planning on cleaning up the property and fixing it up to sell.
In other business, the Council:
• Approved a $150 sponsorship for Triton Field Day.
• Learned Mike Fuller from Channel 46 News went to Town Hall Tuesday. He wanted to know if the town wanted to do any sponsorships in regards to the Triton basketball sectionals if Channel 46 News would mention the town’s name during the broadcast of sectionals. The Council decided to pass on the sponsorship.
• Approved a water system ordinance.
Cook said it is an ordinance to put check valves into Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s cross connections so it doesn’t backfeed into Etna Green’s water system.
