Animal Souls

Editor, Times-Union:

This is in response to the individuals debating whether animals have souls or not. Humans are animals. The biggest difference between the animals you are referring to is intelligence and, of course, opposable thumbs.

According to the Merriam-Websters Collegiate Dictionary Tenth Edition, an animal is "any of a kingdom (Animalia) of living things including many-celled organisms and often of many single-celled ones that typically differ from plants in having cells without cellulose walls, in lacking chlorophyll and the capacity for photosynthesis, in requiring more complex food materials (as proteins), in being organized to a greater degree of complexity, and in having the capacity for spontaneous movement and rapid motor responses to stimulation." It also says that a human is "a bipedal primate mammal." Primates are classified under Animalia.

So it sounds like we are animals. If souls truly existed, how can we tell if a dog or a cat has a soul or not? They cannot communicate, but they are just like us. Meaning they have a beating heart, breathe, feel pain and show emotion. I think science would be better at solving this "mystery" than the Bible.
