I was going to keep my mouth shut about this, but I just can't keep this incident to myself.
A few weeks ago my 86-year-old mother had to make a tough decision to give up her Chihuahua Maggie because her health made it impossible to take care of her anymore. It totally broke her heart and mine because I am allergic to pet dander and also could not afford to take her.
Mom had Maggie for almost nine years and I could not bear to take her to the shelter, so my brother Randy took her for us. He took all Maggie's favorite treats, toys, and her pen that she slept in all those years that was most definitely her "safe haven." She would go in her pen every night when she got tired and wanted to go to bed. He told the people at the Kosciusko Humane Shelter who took her and all of her things that all that stuff must go with Maggie so that she felt as comfortable as possible in her new home surroundings with the people who adopted her. He stressed that fact to the woman who checked it all in.
We found out who adopted her and they said that Maggie was not eating or drinking, she was throwing up and had blood in her stool. They were worried sick about her and so were we. They told us that they would take good care of her, because they already loved her and wanted to keep her.
A couple weeks later, Mom called to see how she was and as we got talking we found out that our very caring (ha!) humane shelter did not give them any of Maggie's things ... not even the pen that was her safe haven. Makes me sick. I am not blaming everyone there, but you have a thief in your shelter and I just want to say to that thief ... I hope you can sleep at night knowing that you took a little dog's safe haven $50 pen, favorite toys, and favorite treats and sent her to a new home with nothing familiar to make her feel safe, she was so worked up that it made her sick.
You are totally disgusting. I can not stand you. You know who you are.
If any of you working there go to a co-worker's house and see a nice black wire pen, a cute stuffed grizzly bear in brown and black just like Maggie, and hear someone saying they are feeding their animal at home a treat called Pegetables that look like a carrot, a piece of celery, or an ear of corn ... that's your thief. They definitely don't care about animals enough to work there or they never would have stole from a little tiny Chihuahua. I wouldn't want them in my shelter ... thief ... no way!
