I am writing today to give a voice for those who are unable to defend their rights. Pit Bulls and dogs of all breeds. Stop blaming the dogs.
All I've heard recently is slander about how pits are sooo dangerous and stories about how pits attack this or attack that. Doesn't anyone ever stop to ask why? No. They don't. Well, I'm going to tell you. It's the owners that cause the issues. Personally I own three American Pit Bull Terriers. I wouldn't have any other breed. They are extremely smart and easily trained.
My dogs would take a bullet for me or any member of my family, and I'd gladly take one for them. They will do anything to please their owners. This is what helps to cause the issue. Morons train these lovable and loyal companions to fight. They keep them in cages and only reward them for violence. They beat them until they break their wills and obey their every command and fight until death. What is their punishment for this?
Not nearly as stiff a penalty as the dogs get. The dogs, who are only obeying their master, get a death sentence. This isn't quite fair if you ask me. My dogs are like my children, and yet, I can't move into city limits of Warsaw because some people aren't bright enough to own animals? I can take my 2-year-old pit to the vet and people shrink away from her. It breaks her heart. She doesn't understand why anyone wouldn't like her.
My 11-year-old pit has never bitten anyone who wasn't provoking it. And mind you, by provoke I mean someone was trying to break into my car and she bit them. She has never even shown her teeth in play with children. None of my dogs have. It's not a dog's fault when they go bad. It's the owner's fault. If we punished the owners as harshly as we punish the dogs, I doubt we'd ever have to place restrictions on a single breed. Just a side note, if you suspect someone of fighting dogs please call the local police department department or contact the animal shelter. It saves lives in all species.
