NORTH MANCHESTER – Alvin Eugene Bailey, 61, of North Manchester, died at 2:30 a.m. Sept. 23, 2012, in his residence.

He was born May 21, 1951, in McKenzie, Ala., to Fred and Edna Hayes Bailey. On July 6, 1972, he married Teresa Snook, who survives.

For more than 25 years he taught shop and coached at Manchester High School and Manchester Junior High, nearly 20 of which he was head football coach for Manchester High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1971-73. He was a member and elder of Manchester Bible Church, North Manchester. He graduated from Buchanan (Mich.) High School in 1969 and held degrees from Western Michigan University and Purdue University.

Also surviving are a son, Aaron (and spouse Susan) Bailey; a daughter, Heather (and spouse Cameron) Baber; brothers: Steve (and spouse Linda) Bailey, Wake Village, Texas; Jeff (and spouse Sarah) Bailey, Buchanan, Mich.; and Michael (and spouse Melinda) Bailey, Niles, Mich.; three sisters: Brenda Thames, Wright City, Mo.; Sheila (and spouse Philip) Morris, O’Fallon, Mo.; and Janice (and spouse Howard) Carter, Niles, Mich.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor Matthew Staton and Pat Powers officiating. A committal service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, Mich.
