NAPPANEE – Alverda G. Stutzman, 82, of 856 W. Market St., Nappanee, died at 11:10 a.m. Aug. 4, 2011, in Courtyard Healthcare Center, Goshen, after a short illness.
She was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Indiana County, Pa.,  to Meade B. and Lucinda McDonald Douglas. On Dec. 2, 1950, she married Jack Williams, who died Aug. 13, 1953. On May 30, 1954, she married Alvin L. Stutzman, who died Feb. 15, 1998.
She graduated from Barnsboro High School in Pennsylvania and moved to Nappanee in 1947. She was a former telephone operator for the Nappanee Phone Co.  and at Goshen College for nine years. She was a longtime member of Mt. Tabor Church of God and was currently attending Union Center Church of the Brethren. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Nappanee, and attended Real Services at the Elder Haus and the Nappanee Caregivers.
Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Stutzman, Nappanee, and Cathy (and spouse Philip) Stallter, Wakarusa; three sons, Jack William Stutzman, Texas, and Douglas Alvin (and spouse Jennifer) Stutzman and Dana Lynn Stutzman, all of Nappanee; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a brother, the Rev. Tom (and spouse Betty) Douglas, Sarasota, Fla. She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Union Center Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Larry Fourman officiating. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
