Michael Alspaugh is the third candidate to file for Warsaw mayor.

Alspaugh, 1502 Ranch Road, filed for the seat Monday.

Joe Thallemer and Tony Miller previously filed for the Warsaw mayor seat.

Filing ends Friday at noon. The primary is May 3, and the general election is Nov. 8.

Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins has announced he will not seek re-election.

During an interview this morning, Alspaugh said it is his first time for seeking a political office.

He also said he is an actor with the Screen Actors Guild, and has a film, "Legacy" that will be released this spring.

Alspaugh is a 1975 Warsaw High School graduate, and grew up with his five sisters and two brothers in Warsaw.

"It was 20 years ago that I wanted to run for mayor, but I wasn't ready at the time, but said if Ernie would not seek re-election I would run, and now is the time," Alspaugh said.

He said, if he is elected mayor, he feels there needs to be a truck stop on U.S. 30 west of Ind. 15, and wants to bring a Costco, a grocery store, to Warsaw.

"There is a problem during poor weather when truckers don't have a place in Warsaw to pull over to rest," Alspaugh said.

He spoke about the city's decision to purchase the former National City Bank building to build a new city hall.

He said he did not agree with the decision, and felt a city hall could be built behind the current Warsaw Police Department station.

He said, as an actor, he has connections in film and said he feels he can draw in film producers and directors to shoot movies in Warsaw.

He said he feels being mayor is a full-time job, and his acting would become second priority if he is elected mayor.
