WABASH - Two men were arrested early this morning and charged with the armed robbery of several convenience stores, including one in Silver Lake Monday.
Michael R. Shewman, 18, and Jeammine A. McPhaul, 19, both of Muncie, are in custody at the Wabash County Jail. They face charges of allegedly robbing convenience stores in Wabash, Silver Lake and Akron.
Shewman allegedly confessed to police that he used a hunting knife to threaten three men at Sand's Mini-Mart early Monday morning.
A clerk at the business told police a man entered the business shortly after she unlocked the doors at 4:27 a.m. She locked herself in an office and called police while the robber reportedly stole money from three men who entered the store.
Police reported that Shewman made a statement that McPhaul drove the vehicle that was waiting outside the convenience store.
The two were taken into custody at 2:45 this morning after police were called to a report of a robbery at the Village Pantry, Manchester Avenue, Wabash.
According to the Wabash County Sheriff's Department, deputies pulled over a vehicle, finding the two men who fit the description of the robbery suspects. Two white females, both 17, were also in the vehicle.
Police reportedly found disguises, a knife and cash in the car. The two men allegedly confessed to committing the three robberies in the past 24 hours.
Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department officials reportedly obtained a consent to search a Columbia City hotel room in which the suspects were reportedly staying. The investigators allegedly recovered cash, cigarettes and two safes from the room.
The two juvenile females were reportedly taken to a juvenile detention center, where they are in custody.
The Kosciusko, Wabash and Fulton counties sheriff's departments are continuing the investigation.
