All Qualified, 1 Experienced

Editor, Times-Union:

I would like to help in the vital decision of electing a sheriff for our county. All the candidates are good law enforcement  officers; only one has been elected twice to be a sheriff in this county and that is Rocky Goshert.

I have served in the jail ministry for 32 years of the 35 years I have been pastoring in Kosciusko County. I have worked with every jail in every county touching our county.  Kosciusko County Jail is the best-run jail, without a doubt.

I have participated in ride-alongs with officers on patrol, prayed with them and wept with them in times of great loss. Rocky has led his department with excellence while striving to protect all the residents of this county.

I have known Rocky for about 15 years very well, during his elected times of duties and serving in other capacities. He is professional, fair and caring about even the criminal element in our county.

He is a man of deep faith, he has endeavored to bring that to the job, believing it makes him a better man, husband and sheriff for us all. Rocky desires to move the department in a continued positive direction.

As a minister, perhaps you think I would trust easy, well I don't. I have lived on the edge, my brother has done 11 years in federal prison, my nephew died Thanksgiving Day in 2017 of a heroin overdose. In my hometown on April 17, 2018, 100 people were arrested and enough drugs taken off the street to kill an estimated 250,000 people.

Sheriff Rocky knows he cannot arrest everyone, so he is already in the beginning stages of developing a treatment for addiction while people are under arrest in the county jail.

Let's help Sheriff Rocky move the county in a positive direction. I will be voting for Sheriff Rocky not because the other men are not qualified, but because he has done the job as an elected official for over eight years already with excellence and compassion.

His Christian convictions are well-known and well-lived.

Don't forget to vote.
