On March 13 at 7 p.m. at the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center, Nebraska Theatre Caravan will bring to the community “The Fantasticks,” the world’s longest-running production of any kind. According to a press release provided, “at the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity that transcends cultural barriers. It is a moving tale of young lovers who become disillusioned, only to discover a more mature, meaningful love. The audience will find themselves humming along such classics as ‘Try to Remember’ and ‘Soon It’s Gonna Rain.’” Carl Beck, director, conceived a steampunk atmosphere. He said, “It’s not an intrusive concept. It seems like the allegoric-quality can blend with fantasy, giving it a quasi-period feel and making for a strong statement than ‘The Fantasticks’ usually gets.” He added that the story is not being re-written or changed in any way. Outside of the costumes, set and props, this show is in its entirety, the original. “Steampunk seems to lend itself to this story by finding beauty among the broken pieces,” he said. “The Fantasticks,” written by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, went on to play a record-breaking 17,162 performances before closing, making it the world’s longest running musical and the longest continuously running production of any kind in the United States. This new adaptation of this classic musical, “The Fantasticks,” promises to provide an unparalleled experience, whether revisiting or seeing it for the first time, according to the press release. For reservations for “The Fantasticks” March 13 at 7 p.m. at the WCHS PAC, call 574-371-5040.
