Alice F. SurfaceMENTONE – Alice F. Surface, 67, of rural Akron, Ind., passed at 4:41 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at Autumn Ridge of Wabash.
She was born on Jan. 11, 1952, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Samie and Dora Miller Bays. She was married on April 11, 1970, in Mentone, to Paul W. Surface; he survives.
Alice worked with her husband on their small family farm, as well as being a homemaker. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Claypool. She enjoyed camping, fishing and knitting, but especially giving her husband a hard time.
She is survived by husband, Paul Surface, Akron; daughters, Tammy and husband Mark Shafer, of Claypool; Libby and husband Brian Metzger, of Claypool; and Samantha and husband Tony Payton, of Pierceton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Karla and husband Victor Lee, of Kissimmee, Fla.; and brothers, Keith and wife Phyllis Bays, of Warsaw, and Kenneth and wife Diane Bays, of Goshen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Carl, Frank and Earl; and grandchildren, Brody and Torie Metzger.
Memorial visitation hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 at King Memorial, Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone.
