Alcohol May Be Factor in Accident, Hospitalizations

NORTH WEBSTER – Driving under the influence could be behind an accident that sent two people to area hospitals Wednesday evening.
Deputies from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and emergency personnel responded at 7:51 p.m. Wednesday to a crash at the intersection of Ind. 13 and CR 400N, just south of North Webster.
Officers found a 1991 blue Ford pickup truck that was northbound on Ind. 13 had turned into the path of a 2006 blue Dodge Caravan that was southbound.  North Webster EMS and Fire Department extricated the driver of the pickup, Marty Deeter, 54, Leesburg, who suffered head and neck injuries. Deeter was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition, according to a KCSD press release this morning.
The driver of the van, Lisa A. Brough, 44, Pierceton, was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital with pain and lacerations to her legs. She was later treated and released.
Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team investigators stated that alcohol and drug results are pending but the initial investigation provided probable cause that Deeter was under the influence at the time of the crash.
KCSD and FACT were assisted by the North Webster EMS, Fire and Police Departments.
