Posted

The driver of a mini-van involved in a rollover Saturday night may have been under the influence of alcohol.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office crash report, at approximately 8:26 p.m. Saturday, the KCSO responded to a traffic accident.
A 2004 silver Honda Odyssey mini-van, driven by Leonardo Diaz, 24, of 5219 E. CR 500N, lot 2, Leesburg, was traveling north on North CR 475E in the area of East Shore Park Road when the mini-van went off the edge of the road to the right. The mini-van then went back onto the road, crossed the center line and went off the road to the left.
When the mini-van went off the road to the left, it hit guide wires owned by Kosciusko REMC. After hitting the guide wires, the mini-van hit numerous trees, causing disabling damage to the vehicle, the report states. The airbag was deployed.
The mini-van was towed by Hollie’s due to the disabling damage. The vehicle is registered to Carlos Hernandez, same address.
Diaz was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for medical treatment for injuries suffered in the crash.
A witness stated she was traveling north on North CR 475E, and when she approached the intersection of East CR 450N, she saw the mini-van traveling west on East CR 450N and it disregarded a stop sign. The mini-van turned and went north on North CR 475E. The witness stated the mini-van sped off north and when she came over a hump in the road, she saw the mini-van hit the trees and come to a rest in the middle of the road.
While an officer was trying to speak to Diaz, there was an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Diaz’s person, the report states. Diaz was read the Indiana Implied Consent and he consented. A deputy went to Lutheran Fort Wayne Hospital to get a voluntary legal blood draw from Diaz for alcohol.
The report states charges will be pending the results of the legal blood draw.
