Toxicology reports received Thursday by the Kosciusko County Coroner's Office indicated that Joshua Kabe Elkins was intoxicated when he was killed in a June 2 traffic accident.
Kosciusko County Coroner Larry Ladd said Elkins' blood-alcohol level at the time of crash was .182 percent. A person is considered legally drunk in Indiana if his blood-alcohol level is .10 percent or greater. Ladd said Elkins also tested positive for marijuana.
Elkins was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4:10 p.m. June 2 accident on Crystal Lake Road, west of CR 400W, after the car he was driving struck another vehicle, spun sideways and slid off the road into a guardrail. The guardrail went through the car, killing Elkins on impact.
