A Nappanee teen-ager injured in an Aug. 6 single-car accident in Atwood was intoxicated, according to police.
Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine said today that Travis Middaugh, 18, had a blood-alcohol level of .10 percent at the time of the accident. A driver is considered intoxicated in Indiana if his blood-alcohol level is .10 percent or greater.
Middaugh and his passenger, Ignacio J. Vasquez, 18, of Franklin, Wis., both suffered multiple injuries in the early-morning accident in which the car Middaugh was driving slammed into the Atwood Lunch Box Cafe.
Both remain hospitalized at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, where Middaugh's condition has improved from critical at the time he was admitted to good as of this morning. Vasquez remains in critical condition, according to hospital officials.
