The Kosciusko County Alcoholic Beverage Board Thursday approved a license transfer for the new owners of Maple Leaf Grille. Arrow Um with brothers Dean and Ohm recently bought the restaurant at 937 N. Detroit St. from John and Scott Tucker. The Ums plan to reopen the establishment in May or June under a new name, as an American-style family restaurant, they told the board. Board members approved renewal of the alcohol license under the Tuckers’ name before transferring it. They also renewed the license for Stella’s at 918 N. Detroit St., after owner Karol Clemens addressed the violation she received in June. Stella’s was fined $500 after a June 20 incident of selling alcohol to a minor who was accompanied by an undercover state excise officer. Clemens said it was her sister who made the sale and that she has since spoken with her staff. “I wanted to fire the person, but it’s my sister, so it’s difficult,” she said, adding that they normally ask everyone for I.D. and even card her 86-year-old father. “I do have a handle on my employees.” Board members expressed understanding before approving the renewal. “We all get one mistake, and maybe this was hers,” remarked board President Gordon Vanator. They also approved the following licenses with no violations: • Jimmy’s Restaurant and Lounce, 407 N. Himes St., North Webster • Ye Olde Pub, 207 W. South St., North Webster • Mi Lindo Acapulco Restaurant, 217 E. Center St., Warsaw
