Alcohol Board Renews Two Licenses with Violations

Posted
Kosciusko County Alcohol and Tobacco Board renewed licenses for Oak and Alley and Sleepy Owl Supper Club Thursday after hearing about the violations each received.
David Gustafson, owner of Saint Regis Club LLC, told the board his server was caught offguard by the visit from an undercover excise officer and a minor because their bartender training focuses more on how minors might try to sneak in alone. His server had no suspicions about what looked like a father-son scenario, he indicated, adding that he will cover it in training in the future.
The October incident, which netted a fine of $500, was the business’ first since it got its alcohol license in 2011, he said.
And Chip Erwin, a representative of Sleepy Owl in charge of training, told the board their server didn’t think twice about an undercover officer and a minor in “adult-looking clothes,” which caused the establishment to be fined $750 for serving a minor and allowing a minor to loiter in the bar. Erwin added he wasn’t on shift at the time, and that he always encourages diligence when it comes to carding.
“I encourage everybody, when it doubt, pull it out,” he said.
The board approved the following license renewals with no violations:
• Hacienda Mexican Restaurant, Warsaw
• King’s Keg, North Webster
• Kmart #9122, Warsaw
• Rex’s Rendezvous, Warsaw
• South Shore Golf Club, Syracuse
• Wilby’s Gas and Goodies, Syracuse
