Alcohol Board Renews Stimmelators License

Posted
Kosciusko County Alcoholic Beverage Board approved a license renewal for Stimmelators Gentlemen’s Club and the transfer of a license for a Milford bar Thursday.
Board members approved the renewal for the North Webster club after owner Sam Stimmel explained the violations he had received June 13, 2012, for underage sale to a minor and allowing a minor to loiter, a $500 fine, and for a Type 2 gaming permit violation, a $150 fine. The underage sale violations occurred during a visit from an undercover state excise officer, while the gaming violation was due to a dancer seen using a pull tab machine in the club.
Gaming law does not allow employees to use gaming machines in establishments where they work. Stimmel told the board he didn’t have clarification on whether or not the dancers, who he said work as independent contractors, were considered employees for the purposes of that law.
He also said the bartender who made the underage sale no longer works for him, and that he has begun a new policy requiring bartenders to pay such fines themselves.
Stimmel added that in the 27 years he’s been in business, he’s received maybe five violations. “I think that’s pretty good,” he said.
But board member Elim Smith noted that Dollar General reported receiving zero violations at 140 permitted locations when seeking a permit from the board last month. “That’s pretty good,” he said with emphasis.
“They probably don’t have a dance club too,” board president Gordon Vanator remarked. “In fairness, you probably have a pretty headache-prone business... Just watch your P’s and Q’s there, or you will be back.”
Board members later approved a license transfer from Just-N-Time Bar and Grill in Milford to new owner Kathryn Cockrill, who has renamed the establishment on South Main Street as Lizards Bar and Grill. They approved the transfer pending an affidavit of compliance with a requirement to post notice of permit application in the bar’s window.
Cockrill said she hung the sign 2-1/2 weeks ago and will file the affidavit this week.
And board members approved the following permit renewals with no violations: Milford Party Pack, Milford; Warsaw Bowl, Warsaw; Spike’s Beach Grill/Noa Noa, Warsaw; Wawasee Bowling Lanes, Syracuse; and Wagon Wheel Theatre, Warsaw.
