Alcohol Board OKs Two Permit Renewals with Violations

Posted
Kosciusko County Alcoholic Beverage Board approved two license renewals with violation and two license transfers Thursday.
They also approved seven license renewals without violation.
Brandon Stouder, owner of The Keg in Leesburg, and Lance Barker, owner of the Silver Inn Tavern in Silver Lake, each appeared before the board to address violations they had received in approximately the past year.
Stouder received violations related to serving a minor during a visit from an undercover excise officer. He told board members that the bartender who made the sale no longer works there and that he  has tried since to keep an eye on potential problems.
He did not remember whether the sale resulted in one or two counts or whether fines amounted to $500 or $1,000.
Barker received a violation for underage sale and a $500 fine a year and a half ago, and violations six months later for underage sale and for the bartender having an expired sale permit, resulting in $1,500 in fines.
“I have no tolerance for that anymore,” he told the board, noting also that he now keeps better track of employee permits.
The board approved a license transfer to Harold Jones, who is resuming ownership of Jones Food Center from Hershad Patel, who had acquired an alcohol permit during the time he owned the grocery store. And they OK’d a transfer to Leonardo Zaca, who opened El Sol Mexican Grill in Warsaw in summer.
The board approved the following license renewals with no violations:
• American Legion Post 223, Syracuse
• American Legion Post 49, Warsaw
• Eagle Creek Farms Market, Winona Lake
• Shopko Hometown 647, Syracuse
• Jones Food Center, Syracuse
• Wings Etc., Warsaw
• Susie’s Sandbar, Warsaw
