Alcohol Board OKs 3 Transfers; 1 Continued

Three alcohol license transfers were unanimously approved by the Alcohol Beverage Board of Kosciusko County Thursday, with a fourth continued until the July meeting.

No representatives for Phillips 66, East Center Street, Warsaw, appeared before the board at its hearing Thursday so excise officer April Tackett said that license transfer had to be continued until the July 11 meeting.

The convenience store’s beer and wine dealer permit renewal was approved by the board prior to the discussion on the license transfer. The old permit had to be renewed before the new one could be transferred and renewals are generally always approved unless there’s a violation.

The first license transfer approved was for a beer retailer permit for Side House Grill, Sheldon Drive, Warsaw.

Owner Gaudencio Velazquez said the restaurant is open. It has two employees who serve alcohol – the bartender and a server. The establishment’s old permit doesn’t expire until October.

He did not have the affidavit of compliance, and Tackett said he needed to turn that in before the state would approve the transfer. She said he could get the affidavit online. The county board’s approval on alcohol licenses is a recommendation to the state.

There were no remonstrators to the transfer for Side House Grill or any of the other petitioners Thursday.

The next transfer approved was for a beer, wine and liquor package store license for Viking Liquor, West Main Street, Mentone. Co-owners Becky Ounkham and Eang Thach appeared before the board.

Ounkham said they took ownership of the business April 1.

Board member Alan Alderfer asked if they had been in this line of business before. Ounkham said it was their first. At this time, she said she and Thach and their spouses were the only employees. All four of them have their licenses to work at the package store.

The last permit transfer approved was for a beer, wine and liquor permit for Lizard’s Bar & Grill, South Main Street, Milford. Co-owners are Richard and Tracy Miotto.

Alderfer asked how many employees the bar and grill had and Richard said it was just he and Tracy mostly, with two licensed employees on the weekends.
