Kosciusko County Alcoholic Beverage Board heard about three businesses’ underage sale violations and a new applicant’s trouble with the law Thursday. The board approved a new liquor license – on a one-year term only – for Jason Brown, owner of One Ten-A Craft Meatery in Warsaw, after hearing his explanation for the packet of information from his attorney detailing his brushes with the law. Brown said he got in trouble for possession of marijuana as a kid and more recently was cited for driving on an expired license, losing driving rights for five years. “Long story short, I was kind of a stupid kid when I was younger and that’s where I am today,” he said. The board also approved a one-year renewal for Jeffrey Yoder, co-owner of Wawasee Bowling Lanes, Syracuse, after he recounted two incidences that netted total fines of $2,400. The first citation was for underage sale and the second for underage sale of alcohol and a pull tab as well as no employee sale permit or record of a permit. Yoder told the board he doesn’t understand how the incidences happened since he has instructions to check IDs written everywhere. Also renewed with one underage sale violation apiece were Liquid Assets Fine Spirits, Warsaw, and Grill-N-Grate BBQ, Syracuse. Renewed without violation was McClure Oil #55, Syracuse. The board tabled a license renewal request for Stimmelators Gentlemen’s Club, North Webster, at the request of owner Sam Stimmel, who has obtained new legal counsel. Stimmel was charged with corrupt business influence after he and four employees were arrested Oct. 30, following a three-month investigation into alleged corrupt practices at his club.
