Kosciusko County Alcohol and Tobacco Commission had a short meeting Thursday.
First up was the renewal of Walmart’s beer, wine and liquor license at 2501 Walton Blvd., Warsaw.
Lisa McKinney, representing Walmart Store #1304 at Thursday’s hearing, said the store received a violation on Oct. 28 after an underage female bought cans of beer in the self-checkout lane.
McKinney said the employee should have checked the female’s identification and typed in the birth date in order for the sale to be commissioned, however, that employee did not do that.
“So this store paid a $1,000 fine for the violation, and the employee was reprimanded and retrained,” McKinney said. “When this happened, the entire store was trained again. ... Walmart prides itself with having to check IDs, look at the picture, enter the birth date, which this employee clearly did not do that and didn’t follow Walmart policy, either.”
The violation has since been cleared up, and the board unanimously approved Walmart’s license renewal.
Also Thursday, the board approved a transfer of ownership of a beer and wine grocery store permit to Garcha G. Mart Inc., which is the old Village Pantry gas station and convenience mart at the corner of South Buffalo Street and Winona Avenue in Warsaw.
Harkirat Garcha said he recently purchased the gas station and beer is already being sold inside. He just wanted to continue doing business as is.
The board unanimously approved the transfer of ownership.
The next county Alcohol Tobacco Commission meeting is 1 p.m. April 1 and is virtual only. A number to call in to attend the virtual meeting can be found at www.in.gov.
