Albert F. Orcutt, 92, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. He is remembered as a loving father and had noted that he “lived a great life with no regrets.”
Al, as most knew him, was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Atwood. He was the son of Wesley L. and Ethel Bemis Orcutt. He was a 1944 graduate of Atwood High School and spent all of his lifetime in Kosciusko County.
On Sept. 9, 1944, Albert F. Orcutt was inducted into the United States Army in Indianapolis. He would serve his country in the campaigns of Central Europe and was wounded in action on April 11, 1945, for which he earned a Purple Heart. He was decorated with several other medals and ribbons before being honorably discharged from Fort Sheridan, Ill., on July 27, 1946.
He returned to the waiting arms of Marjorie Haney, to whom he was wed on Aug. 17, 1946. Together they had five children and shared more than 50 happy years before her passing. He was blessed to find love again and was married to Esther J. Grindel on Aug. 19, 1998, though she too preceded him in passing after nearly 20 happy years together.
Al was humble, multi-talented and good with his hands. As a young man he farmed, but he held jobs as a carpenter and in metal fabrication, too. He was an electrician for Derry Electric and had worked for Reliable Builders.
He was a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and a member of American Legion Post 49. He had served on the Harrison Township Advisory Board and enjoyed bluegrass music. A licensed pilot himself, Al was grateful to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in May 2015.
He is survived by four sons: Michael (Maureen) Orcutt, Boston, Mass.; Rex (Jean) Orcutt, Warsaw; Wayne (Vicki) Orcutt, Warsaw; and Mitch (Rachael) Orcutt, Quinlan, Texas; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Ted) Wilson, Hulett, Wyo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Al was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, Dec. 17, 1997; his wife Esther, April 20, 2017; daughter, Arlene Talladino, Nov. 11, 2008; and siblings: Helen Jervis, Genevieve Druckamiller and Robert Orcutt.
Visitation will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 105 E. Hovey St., Atwood, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the church, with Pastor Mike Beezley officiating. Burial will be in Stony Point Cemetery.
