Former Warsaw boys basketball coach Al Rhodes is adding another highlight to his already impressive resume.
Rhodes, who coached the Tigers for 22 years before making stops at Logansport, Fort Wayne Northrop and now Penn, is in the 2010 enshrinement class for the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.The ceremony will be in March.
In his 22 years as Warsaw's head coach, Rhodes, who still lives in Warsaw, led the Tigers to 405 wins.
During that time, Warsaw won 14 sectional championships, seven regional titles, four semistate crowns and the 1984 state championship.
Rhodes' teams won 10 Northern Lakes Conference championships.
Also among the Tigers' impressive wins under Rhodes was the 1995 Hall of Fame Classic championship, as second-ranked Warsaw beat No. 1 Ben Davis 62-58.
Rhodes coached two Mr. Basketballs at Warsaw, Jeff Grose (1985) and Kevin Ault (1996).
The Tigers produced six Indiana All-Stars during Rhodes' tenure.
In his last season as head coach at WCHS, the Tigers posted a record of 21-3 overall, 6-1 in the NLC, and were ranked seventh in the final Class 4A poll.
Rhodes was a head coach in the 2005 McDonald's All-America Game, which was played at the University of Notre Dame.
Rhodes owns a career record of 461-206 and is 10th in wins among active Indiana high school boys basketball coaches.
Joining Rhodes in the 2010 class are Larry Angle (New Salem), Tom Arnholt (Columbus), Chuck Bavis (Garrett), Jim Bradley (E.C. Roosevelt), Mike Cooper (Valparaiso), Norm Held (Williamsport), Ron Hughes (Kokomo), Dave Magle (S.B. LaSalle), Jerry Peirson (Royerton), Steve Redenbaugh (Paoli), Brian Walker (Lebanon), Bob White (Jasper) and Mike Woodson (Ind. Broad Ripple).
Elkhart native and former LaPorte Herald-Argus sports editor Dave Krider has been selected as the recipient of the Silver Medal, an award giving for contributions to the game of basketball.
