An Akron woman was arrested on drug charges Monday after an anonymous tip led police to her previous Silver Lake residence, where she and others were allegedly manufacturing methamphetamine in May.
Dana Mishelle Miller, 30, of 207 N. Maple St., Akron, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 7:50 a.m. Monday for failure to appear and possession of meth more than 28 grams. Her preliminary bond was set at $10,250.
Court documents filed July 25 list the charges against her as possession of methamphetamine, a level 3 felony; possession of a narcotic drug, a level 6 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
On May 11, Silver Lake Police Department officer Jason McGlennen received an anonymous tip that Dana Miller, 30, of 10344 S. Roosevelt St., Silver Lake, and her friends were manufacturing methamphetamine at her residence, according to court documents filed July 25.
When McGlennen went to the home and walked up to the porch, he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the house. Officers knocked on the door several times and saw a person peer through the curtain but would not respond or open the door. Officers continued knocking until Eric Salyer opened the door and the odor of marijuana was even stronger.
Officers entered the home and spoke with Salyer, and in plain view saw a torn plastic bag, marijuana smoking device and wadded-up paper that appeared to be a filter for a syringe.
Looking through the residence, officers found Michael Trosper, Miller, Ashtyn Demelo and Kayla Anderson hiding. Miller was found hiding in the bathroom shower, and officers also found a spoon containing a liquid and a syringe in the bathroom.
Miller told officers she and Devon Poe rent the residence and that there was more methamphetamine in the house. When officers asked for her consent to search the home, Miller said she did not know if she could give it.
Officers also spoke to Demelo who said she came to the Roosevelt Street house with Shaquille Delaney in a blue 2016 Hyundai Veloster to deliver methamphetamine. She said the vehicle was parked in front of the residence and it had methamphetamine in it.
A search warrant was obtained for officers to search the home and vehicles.
Claypool Police Department officer Ben Sanders searched the Veloster and found a plastic bag containing 5.2 grams of marijuana.
In the living room of the house, officers found drug paraphernalia and Demelo’s purse that contained scales and a smoking device.
In the bathroom shower, officers found a syringe and a metal tin that contained many small empty plastic bags and a vial of heroin. They also found a plastic bag of methamphetamine weighing 94.6 grams. A found syringe contained a clear liquid, while a purse on the floor contained paperwork for Miller, a smoking device and a small container with heroin in it.
Warsaw Police Department officer Ryan Moore spoke with Miller who admitted Trosper had been staying at her home for the past few days. She said she made a deal with him to stay there in exchange for a half gram of crystal meth per day.
