Akron Elementary fifth-grade students, their families and community members gathered into the new Akron Community Center May 17 to highlight Akron Elementary Students' writing. Students chose one piece that they worked during this school year to perfect. They then went through the writing process with the piece to get it ready for the night. This writing process included revising, editing and final publication. Students then had to declare the genre that the piece classifies as and name the piece. Students' work could include a poetry collection, a narrative, a research-based publication, persuasive based writing or something that fits into the other category. The other category may include such pieces as fantasy stories, mysteries or classic stories. This was an exciting night for students, families, school staff and community members. Fifth-grade students hosted more than 300 people during this event. This special night was the perfect way to celebrate the young authors' writing excellence of the Akron fifth grade. The Akron Community Center allowed Akron to use the facility.
