AKRON – The Akron Public Library announced its 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Unearth a Story.”
This year, the library is again offering two separate programs beginning June 3 and running through July 23. The children’s program is for ages 3 through fifth grade, and the teen program is designed for students entering sixth grade and up. Both programs offer prizes and incentives for reading books. An adult program will be offered later this winter, according to a news release from the Akron Public Library.
Children’s Program Highlights
Weekly crafts, activities, and milestones will keep kids engaged. Featured events include:
• Dinosaur Dimensions: Back by popular demand, this program returns.
• Silly Safaris: A live, interactive animal show that is always a favorite with the kids.
• Obstacle Course: A physical activity challenge.
• StoryWalk® Experience: Enjoy reading a book step-by-step along an outdoor trail.
• Historical Guest: Meet and enjoy listening to stories from Betsy Ross.
• Revolutionary War Reading: A historical reading which coincides with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Children’s Prizes: Kids will earn fun prizes at designated reading milestones, including a large selection of super-cute new Croc charms. Children will also be entered into a weekly drawing for additional prizes.
Teen Program Highlights
Teen readers will receive Croc charms for reading, alongside a special punch card.
• How it works: Each book read equals one punch. Every three punches earns one scratch-off ticket for a prize.
• Craft Classes: Teens can attend exclusive workshops to create geodes, dinosaur eyes, fairy houses, hobbit holes and faux bug taxidermy.
