AKRON - The Akron Plan Commission hired Baker & Daniels law firm from Indianapolis Tuesday to help write zoning ordinances.
Representatives from the firm met with the Akron town council and plan commission Sept. 22.
With only $5,000 budgeted for legal costs in 1999, the commission will need to come up with an additional $15,000 for the writing of ordinances.
Commission member Eva Hartman asked where the additional money was going to come from. Member Roger Gearhart said they would use surplus funds from utilities instead of tax dollars. The surplus funds would be used in emergencies for water and sewer problems.
Allen told Hartman, "There is evidently more in the fund than would be needed for any emergency."
Representatives from Baker & Daniels are expected to attend the November meeting.
