Mentone Elementary School will hold its registration for the 2012-13 school year Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 8 p.m.
As part of its registration process, the school will be doing a brief assessment of basic kindergarten skills for all incoming kindergarten students. The school is asking that parents make plans to bring their kindergarten children with them to registration so a basic test prior to the first day of school can be completed.
Kindergarten teachers will be on hand to give a brief 10-question test. No appointment is necessary.
Mentone Elementary also will hold its open house Aug. 16 at 6 p.m.
This is an opportunity for parents and students to meet teachers and staff members and bring students’ school supplies to their classroom. Lockers will be assigned to students for their supplies.
There will be two sessions in which classroom teachers will hand out information regarding attendance, programs offered at Mentone and student handbooks.
Each room that parents visit will have a bucket to collect raffle tickets. A prizewinner will be drawn from each bucket to win a Mentone Bulldog backpack filled with school supplies. The school then will combine tickets for a chance to win gift certificates provided by the Mentone Parent Support Group.
Ice cream will be served in the cafeteria.
Mentone Student Council members will give tours, starting at the main entrance.
