AKRON - The Akron Area Fine Arts League is being formed by a group of local artists.
The mission of the League is to provide opportunities for personal expression in the arts, and to provide opportunities for increased appreciation for the arts. The group will target all activities to people living within a 15-mile radius of Akron, but others are welcome to participate.
Two activities have been scheduled, both will be in the Akron Lions Club Building, 110 N. Maple St., just three blocks east and one block north of the stoplight in Akron. There is no cost to attend.
A jammers group for acoustic string players is being formed by the League. If you play bluegrass, southern gospel and country music, bring your instrument and sit-in with the players or just come to listen and learn from some of the best in the area. Jamming starts at 7 p.m. Oct. 12.
Monthly meetings for people who like to draw and paint, using any media, will begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 16. These meetings are open to artists at any skill level and in any medium. If you would like to work, share and learn from other artists, then bring your art materials and a lunch on the third Tuesday of each month and stay as long as you can.
