AKRON – Akron Area Arts League announces upcoming events around town. Community Concert A Mardi Gras party is scheduled for Feb. 16 from 4-5 p.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church, 530 Jefferson St., Rochester. Dixieland music will be provided by the “Dixie Mugbugs”. There’ll be beads, masks and king cake. Dress in the Mardi Gras colors of green, gold and purple. The only cost is a freewill donation. Everyone is invited. Writing Group The AAAL Writer’s Group will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Akron Public library. This meeting is for anyone interested in creative writing. Bring a writing sample to share with the group. Refreshments will be served. Akron Jam The third Friday Jam is scheduled for Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Akron Community Center, located east of Akron and north on Ind. 14. Bring your acoustic instruments and sit in with the group or just come to hear country, bluegrass, folk and gospel music. Coffee and juice will be provided. Bring a small snack to share. Donations are accepted. The Jams are sponsored by the Akron Area Arts League. The print topics are: how to capture reflected light on your subject; how to see letters of the alphabet in found objects; and a still life composition. The educational DVD will be about lighting. If you are interested in photography and cameras you are invited to attend this meeting.
