NORTH MANCHESTER — During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Manchester Community School Board unanimously approved the hiring of Brooke Airgood as the new varsity girls' basketball coach.
Airgood replaces Mark Underwood, who coached the Lady Squires for 12 years, accumulating 162-104 record, winning three sectional titles and four Three Rivers Conference championships, including three-straight between 2004 and 2006.
After moving to Arizona from North Manchester during high school, Airgood was a three-sport athlete and NJCAA All-American in track and field at Scottsdale Community College and a scholar athlete at New Mexico State University, earning all-conference honors in the javelin.
For the past 12 years, she has been teaching and coaching in California serving as a physical education teacher and basketball coach.
She has experience coaching at all levels, both boys and girls, and has coached volleyball and track and field as well as basketball.
In 2004, she was elected to coach the all-star game for Division I, Southern Section California.
At Manchester Junior-Senior High School, Airgood will be a physical education and health teacher.
"We are excited to welcome Brooke Airgood back to Manchester as a teacher and coach," MJSHS principal Nancy Alspaugh said. "She has outstanding qualifications to take over our girls' basketball program and is thrilled to have an opportunity to coach and teach in her Indiana hometown."
