I spent the first 17 years of my life in Kosciusko County, including nearly every Saturday night in Warsaw. Until I moved away, I never heard someone admit to being an atheist. In fact, I didn't hear the word spoken unless it was spat out disparagingly.
Finally, 16-year-old Kaci Slough has done what many, many others should have done long ago. She told it like it is, something that's impossible for people who are required to take things on faith. Atheism may or may not be a valid belief, but it surely makes as much or more sense than a story about a woman who talked to a snake. The conversation ended up with the onus of everybody's having to have water dumped on our heads lest they suffer an eternity for something we had nothing to do with.
