Agnes Pruyn Chapman Chapter DAR Good Citizens Are Announced

The Agnes Pruyn Chapman Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution announced the DAR good citizens for the 2019-20 school year.  

Each year Kosciusko County high schools may choose one senior exemplifying the following qualities:  dependability – truthfulness, honesty and punctuality, etc.; service – cooperation, helpfulness, responsibility, etc.; leadership – personality, self-control and initiative; and patriotism – unselfish loyalty to American ideals.  

Students may participate in the DAR Good Citizen Scholarship Contest by providing a “resume,” grade transcript, letter of recommendation, and write an essay on the provided topic.

The good citizens honored are Micah Hoffman, Madelyn Long and Emmaline Zink.  

Zink was named chapter winner by independent, non-DAR judges and competed in the state DAR Good Citizen  Scholarship Contest. Zink is the daughter of Robert and Kristy Zink. A student at Lakeland Christian Academy, some activities have been student senate secretary sophomore year and vice president junior and senior years, a member of National Honor Society, manager of Kelainey’s Sweet Dreams in Winona Lake, church camp counselor for day and overnight camps, received several awards for art work and participated in school theater.

Hoffman, Warsaw Community High School, is the son of Meghan Hoffman and Richard Hoffman.  He has been copy editor of the school newspaper, involved in church youth group, volunteers in church activities such as feeding and connecting with people at the homeless shelter, has been closing manager at McAlister’s Deli and more.

Long, daughter of Paul and Kristina Long, attended Wawasee High School.  She was a member of National Honor Society, 4-H, Adopt-a-Highway program and Kosciusko County Teen Court.  Other activities include church community service, school drama lighting tech, student assistant in school foreign language lab, girls volleyball and varsity basketball team manager and works at Joe’s Ice Cream.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the late winter and spring meetings of the Agnes Pruyn Chapman Chapter were cancelled. The chapter was unable to host Zink, Long and Hoffman at a meeting.
