The sixth annual Kosciusko Ag Day observance is April 9 and 10 at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds in Warsaw.
More than 1,100 fourth-grade students from Warsaw, Tippecanoe Valley, Pierceton, Milford, North Webster, Warsaw Christian and Sacred Heart schools will attend the event.
Each class will visit 12 educational booths covering topics such as food nutrition, 4-H, crops, swine, beef, chickens, dairy, soils and water quality, ducks, farm machinery, sheep and farm safety.
At each booth students will participate in an eight-minute educational demonstration. In addition to participating in these activities, teachers and students will also receive an educational packet containing information from each station.
The Kosciusko County Ag Day is an annual event providing fourth-grade students with the opportunity to learn more about agriculture through a pre- and post-test, in addition to the day's presentations. Nearly 200 volunteers and sponsors help make Ag Day activities possible.
Also on April 9 is the fourth annual "A Taste of Agriculture" from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on the fairgrounds.
Families will be able to sample a variety of foods, including ice cream, pork, duck, beef, lamb, eggs, goat cheese and foods made with herbs.
This event is free to the public.
In addition to several others, 4-H, FFA, Master Gardeners and Solid Waste Management District will sponsor booths.
This year's program features a scale model of a Mid-western county fair, barrel racing, horse shoeing, sheep shearing, composting and sawmill demonstrations and a kiddie tractor pull.
The second-annual Celebrity Goat Milking contest begins at 6 p.m. in the show arena.
This activity features area celebrities such as WRSW's Rita Price, WSBT's Mike Stack, Fox 28's Dean Huppert and Indiana's first Miss Basketball Judy Warren.
An educational scavenger hunt has been organized for children and adults. Adult participants who finish the scavenger hunt may register to win a $100, $75 or $50 gift certificate from a local grocery store.
Ag Day and Taste of Agriculture programs are designed to provide Kosciusko County families with an interactive, educational opportunity to learn more about agriculture. The activities also provide people attending the event an opportunity to sample various products grown here.
