WINONA LAKE - Adult contemporary Christian music artist Mark Schultz was only 2 weeks old when he was adopted.

Now, at age 37, he is using the experience to convey his adoption story through his music.

Schultz will perform a Mother's Day weekend concert May 9 at 7 p.m. at the Orthopaedic Capital Center on Grace College Campus. Doors will open for the concert at 6 p.m.All proceeds from the concert will go to support the Pro-Life Music Festival June 19-22 and the Kosciusko County Right to Life.

Martt Clupper, concert organizer and chairman of the Pro-Life Music Festival, said he is excited to have Schultz perform a concert in Winona Lake.

"A person can tell through Mark's music that he has a big heart and takes people on journeys as they explore his adoption story through his music," Clupper said.

Schultz now lives in North Carolina with his wife.

"I never met my birth mother and was adopted into a loving family," Schultz said during a recent telephone interview.

Schultz has performed previous at the Elkhart County Fair and at the Honeywell Center in Wabash.

Schultz's latest album, "Broken and Beautiful", came out in 2007. It focuses on his experience of being adopted.

"I never took piano lessons, but learned to play the piano by ear; my songs are emotional ballads that focus on my story of adoption," Schultz said.

Schultz describes himself as a story songwriter. He said his concerts are family-oriented.

One of his favorite songs on the "Broken and Beautiful" album is "Everything To Me."

"Although I never have met my birth mother, I am thankful she gave me life and I convey that in this song," Schultz said.

He will perform songs from the album and his other albums during the concert.

Schultz worked with producer Mark Bright on the album. Bright is well-known for his work with Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Sara Evans and other major country artists.

The album is one of four albums and a live DVD concert video Schultz has released. He currently is working on another record.
