Focus on Safety founder Ann Sweet announced Wednesday that State Sen. Kent Adams filed a bill that will enable cities in Indiana to employ the use of photo-red technology at stoplights.
The bill, Bill 4, was filed Tuesday.
"I think we have accomplished a huge amount since April," said Sweet.
This bill will allow cities in Indiana to pass local ordinances that would allow cameras to be used as a tool to aid police enforcement of traffic violations at intersections. Sweet said nothing more can be done until the legislation passes in February or March.
"I think we're well on our way," she said.
Sweet warned that even if the bill is passed, Warsaw still might not get photo-red technology. The bill Adams filed is only an enabling bill. Cities will have to pass local ordinances to cover the details in their communities.
"I think we're going to have a good chance of getting it passed," said Rep. Dave Wolkins. The bill will go through the state House of Representatives the first week of February.
Sweet, who is a senior sales consultant for Sprint in Warsaw, also said Sprint has added information to its Web site about red-light running and Sweet's role in doing something about it.
