AKRON – Adam Arnett, 78, Akron, and formerly of rural Roann, died at 10:05 p.m. May 2, 2014, at his residence after being in failing health for several months. He was born Nov. 15, 1935, in Floyd County, Ky., to Henry and Sally Shepherd Arnett. On Oct. 11, 1958, in Prestonsburg, Ky., he married Maria Lynn Johnson, who survives in Akron. He moved from Floyd County 20 years ago. He was a coal miner and a farmer. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Association. He enjoyed NASCAR, and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Jr. When his health allowed, he also enjoyed hunting and all the yard work. Also surviving are four daughters: Sandra Kay (and spouse Monroe) Stephen, Prestonsburg; Teresa (and spouse Earl) Martin, McDowell, Ky.; Rita Grow, Syracuse; Sally Shepherd, Mentone; six sons: Ell (and spouse Sharon) Arnett, Claypool; Adam Arnett Jr. and James Thomas Arnett, both of Akron; Jeff Arnett, Milford; Michael (and spouse Marqueta) Arnett and Daniel Arnett, all of Silver Lake; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Jr. (and spouse Opal) Arnett, Silver Lake; four sisters: Goldie (and spouse Truman) Griffeth and Janice (and spouse Don) Prater, all of David, Ky.; Barb (and spouse William Joe) Ousley, Noblesville; Opal (and spouse JR) Bates, Prestonsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Maria Arnett; two grandchildren, Adam OC and Sally Kay Shepherd; two sisters, Anna May Ousley and Osie Pitts; and three brothers, Johnny, Rube and Tom Arnett. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastors Lauren Bradley and Luther Bailey officiating. Burial is in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
