The mother of a woman killed in an Oct. 27 traffic accident has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a semi truck driver and the company for which he works.
The case was filed Dec. 30 in Kosciusko Circuit Court on behalf of Ann Sweet, Warsaw, by South Bend attorney Thomas H. Singer.
Sweet's 21-year-old daughter, Shawnee Rose Ulrey, died from injuries she suffered when her car was struck by a semi driven by Michael L. Sanger of Sabula, Iowa. At the time of the accident, he was driving for Art Pape Transfer Inc., Dubuque, Iowa.
The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 30 and CR 150W as Ulrey was crossing northbound over the highway on the county road. Ulrey reportedly had a green traffic light, while traffic on U.S. 30 - including Sanger's eastbound rig - had a red light.
Also named as a defendant in the lawsuit is David Ulrey of Columbia, S.C. He is the father of Shawnee Ulrey and has been named only to show what interest he might have in any judgment awarded in the case.
A specific monetary amount is not noted, but Sweet is seeking judgment for damages resulting from loss of services, loss of love and companionship, and funeral and burial expenses.
