Local residents hospitalized from recent incidents are showing improvement, including a Mentone girl who was released from Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Monday.
Alexandria Ayala-Castro, 9, of Mentone, suffered facial fractures in a Sunday accident in which her 5-year-old sister, Valerie Ayala-Castro, died.
The mother of the girls, Juana Ayala, 31, of Mentone, was the driver of the car when she lost control on Ind. 25 and the vehicle rolled into a cornfield. Ayala suffered bruises, complained of pain and was treated at Parkview and released Sunday.
Joseph Glant of Warsaw, who was injured in a fight Saturday at Time Out Inn, Warsaw, was upgraded from serious to fair condition at Parkview.
Glant, 43, suffered a head injury when he was apparently struck from behind by a beer bottle. The incident remains under investigation by the Warsaw Police Department.
In an Aug. 18 accident, Jonathan Shepherd, 13, of Pierceton, suffered internal injuries when the dirt bike he was driving collided head-on with another dirt bike driven by his father, Carlie Shepherd, 34, of Pierceton. The accident occurred on Wooster Road.
Jonathan Shepherd, who was in critical condition when he was airlifted to Parkview, is now in fair condition, hospital officials said today.
Carlie Shepherd suffered a broken leg and was previously released from Parkview.
