James Gregory Hamilton was identified Monday as the pedestrian who was killed in a traffic accident early Monday morning on U.S. 30.
Hamilton, 27, of 2854 U.S. 30, Box 165, Warsaw, was identified Monday by his wife, Diana. She said he left home on foot at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday to make a phone call from a nearby gas station and never returned.
Hamilton was struck at 1:07 a.m. Monday by a trash truck driven by Patrick Lambert of Winona Lake. Hamilton was reportedly walking in the westbound passing lane of U.S. 30 at the time of the accident.
Police said heavy rain at the time obscured visibility and contributed to the accident.
Kosciusko County Coroner Larry Ladd said Hamilton died of massive head injuries. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the accident, but toxicology test results will not be received for two to three weeks.
The fatality is being reported as an accidental death.
